![]() Most recently, two popular YouTubers promised to release a porno if they got one million likes. Playing the grift has become a staple tactic for wannabe influencers for years now, desperate to “growth hack” and ramp up their following. It’s an achingly new type of conduct whereby people manipulate the natural ebbs and flows of the internet by pulling off outrageous (and often profitable) stunts for attention. ‘Grifting’, in its online context, doesn’t just mean perpetrating petty scams. Many have applauded her manipulation of the often sad reality of online commerce under late capitalism, exemplifying the concept of ‘the grift’. There has been plenty of praise for Delphine out there too. Her audience is so large and committed that she probably doesn’t have to. Delphine has rarely commented publicly on these allegations. On YouTube, others porn creators have made lengthy videos critiquing Delphine’s image, and detailing an alleged history of wronging other online sex workers. In some photos, Delphine wears braces, which some maintain is a ploy to look younger rather than serving a corrective purpose. She faces allegations of appropriating the controversial Lolita subculture, and allegations that she previously stole the photos of other sex workers. Inside and outside of the sex worker community Delphine has faced criticism for a persona which many say deliberately suggests an underage girl. On YouTube, there are compilations of her making the ahegao face with literally hundreds of thousands of views. ![]() In many of Delphine’s photos it is her go-to pose. Before 2019, Delphine made her following largely because of her look – a sort of manic pixie dream girl meets anime faerie – and also because of the face she pulls in so many photos: ahegao.Īhegao is term from Japanese pornography, describing the facial expression of an animated character during sex, eyes rolled back and tongue out. The mainstream spotlight is good for Delphine’s bank account, but has also brought substantial negative attention to her image and her means of crafting it. At the start of the year she had just over two million followers on Instagram. While all of this is interesting and funny and undeniably a little weird, Delphine has nonetheless experienced a meteoric rise in popularity. She sold out rapidly, struggling to keep up with demand for what is ultimately a very easy product to produce. How about a custom photoset? That’s closer to $1000.Įarlier this month, Delphine made headlines for selling small jars of her bathwater for $30. ![]() ![]() Want access to her private Snapchat account? That’ll be $50 a month, thanks. On Patreon, Delphine offers a tiered subscription model where users can pay anywhere from $50 to $2500 for content. Her audience delivered, nearing two million likes in 24 hours, and Delphine delivered, too, just not in the way they had probably hoped: her Pornhub page is full of videos with titles like ‘Belle Delphine SQUIRTS All Over The Floor’ and ‘PewDiePie Goes All The Way Inside Belle Delphine’, but instead of hardcore porn the videos feature the model playing with a water pistol or eating a printed out photo of YouTube star PewDiePie. Delphine had promised that she would make a Pornhub account if one of her photos gathered more than one million likes. The 19-year-old made headlines last month after tricking millions of her followers into liking an Instagram photo.
